The Blinn College women’s basketball team dropped a Region 14 home tilt to Paris Junior College 59-47 on Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers are now 17-12 overall and 7-6 in region play.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well today, and we struggled with turnovers,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “When you’re battling those issues, you have to be perfect defensively. I thought we made a couple of mistakes defensively, but we still held Paris to 59 points. We just needed to hit a few more shots.”

Blinn got off to a strong start and opened up an 18-8 lead in the first quarter before the Dragons battled back near the end of the period to make it 18-12.

The Bucs carried a 31-30 lead into halftime.

Paris took the lead for good on a 9-3 run in the opening minutes of the third period and went into the fourth with a 45-41 edge.

Blinn was within 51-47 late, but the Dragons scored eight straight points to put the game away.

Freshman forward Amyah Weathersby paced the Bucs with 11 points, and sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte added nine.

Prior to tip-off, Blinn recognized its five sophomores – LeCompte and guards Jaya Gradney, Jasey Campbell, Taylor Spencer, and Mariah Houston – as part of its Sophomore Day festivities.

Up next, the Bucs conclude their regular season with a region road trip to Coastal Bend College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, in Beeville, Texas.
