director.
During commissioners court today (Tuesday), County Judge John Durrenberger introduced Taylor Leonard as the department’s interim director. Leonard was chosen for the role following the departure of longtime director Kevin Deramus, who has taken a position with the Texas Division of Emergency Management as Region 8 Section Chief.
Leonard called Washington County EMS the “best department in the state” and said Deramus was a great leader and mentor to learn from. He said he cares greatly about the department and seeks to provide stability as it moves forward.
Leonard joined Washington County EMS in 2013, starting as an emergency medical technician before becoming a paramedic and later serving in various capacities throughout the department. Prior to coming to Washington County, he worked for transfer services in Lubbock and Bryan.
