CUB BASEBALL BREAKS 20-RUN MARK FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE DAY IN WIN OVER WILLIS

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team continued their hit parade last (Thursday) night with a 21-1 win over the Willis Wildcats at Fireman's Park as part of the Brenham Alumni Tournament.

Dalton Hart got it started in the bottom of the first inning with a single, Owen Finke walked, and Ethan Aschenbeck was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Then, Luke Hardy unloaded a grand slam to give the Cubs an early 4-0 lead.

Willis got their only run in the top of the second, which made it a 4-1 game.

In the bottom of the second inning, Brayden Steele started it off with a single, and then Nate Rau came as a courtesy runner. Hart walked, and Finke was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Bentke, who then smacked a single to drive in Rau, and make it 5-1 Brenham.

Hart scored on a wild pitch, and then Hardy followed with a sacrifice fly that brought home Finke to increase the Brenham advantage to 7-1.

Bleu Cienega added an RBI single to score Bentke. Brody Tucker reached on an error that allowed Cienega to come home and make it 9-1.

The offense didn't stop there though. The Cubs added five more runs in the third inning as well. Steele reached on an error, and Rau came in to run again. Hart doubled to centerfield, which put two on for Bentke. Rau scored on a wild pitch. Bentke would then crush a two-run homer that put Brenham up 12-1.

Later in the inning, Hardy and Cienega drew back-to-back walks. Tucker brought them both home with a two-run single. That made it 14-1 Cubs.

Brenham added seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Steele was hit by a pitch, Rau came into run, Hart doubled, and Finke was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bentke smacked a two-run single that scored Rau and Hart to give Brenham a 16-1 lead.

Aschenbeck walked to re-load the bases, but then Hardy cleaned them off with a three-run double that gave the Cubs a 19-1 advantage.

Cienega reached base for the fourth time in the game on a single. Tucker singled in Hardy. Brooks Roznovsky came up as a pinch-hitter, and reached on a fielder's choice that also allowed Cienega to score the final run, and put Brenham ahead 21-1.

With the 27 runs on 22 hits in the first game, and 21 runs on 13 hits in the second game, that gave the Cubs a total of 48 runs on 35 hits for the day.

Steele got the win allowing only one run through the first four innings. Dawson Keim closed it out in the fifth with a scoreless inning of relief.
