LADY PANTHER SOFTBALL OPENS FRANKLIN TOURNAMENT WITH 7-0 WIN OVER CONNALLY
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team opened up Franklin's second tournament of the season with a 7-0 victory over Waco Connally on Thursday.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when the Lady Panthers put up four runs. Lexi Broesche started it off with a double. Natalie Hodde followed with a bunt, and on an error by the Connally pitcher, Broesche came around to score. Amaya Williams came up next, and doubled home Hodde to make it 2-0. Williams went to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on an error by the catcher. Paige Fritsch kept it going with a double, and later came home on an RBI single by Leilah Ellis, which made it 4-0 Lady Panthers.
It would remain that way until the bottom of the 5th inning. Fritsch reached on a double. Laci Broesche laid down a bunt that was misplayed by Connally, and allow Fritsch to come all the way around and score. Broesche later scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0 Burton.
The Lady Panthers got one more run in the sixth inning. Hodde reached on a fielder's choice, and later scored on an RBI double by Williams to give Burton a 7-0 lead.
Lexi Broesche pitched 5 1/3 innings to get the win. She also racked up ten strikeouts along the way.
Next up, Burton will face Franklin this (Friday) morning at 10:45am.
