BURTON SOFTBALL LOSES ON THE ROAD AT HALLETTSVILLE SACRED HEART 12-6

The Burton Lady Panthers finished off their non-district scheduled last (Wednesday) night with a 12-6 loss to the Hallettsville Sacred Heart Indianettes.

Lexi Broesche got the scoring started in top of the first inning by reaching on an infield single. Two batters later, Amaya Williams brought her home with an RBI triple to give Burton the early 1-0 lead.

Sacred Heart came back with a run in the bottom of the first inning to tie it, and a run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Burton tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning. Lexi Broesche drew a walk, and she later scored on an RBI double by Williams.

The Indianettes re-took the lead two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and another run in the bottom of the fourth to increase the advantage to 5-2.

The Lady Panthers had their biggest inning in the top of the fifth. Lexi reached on a walk, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch. Natalie Hodde reached on an error that allowed Lexi to score. Williams followed with the two-run homer to tie it at 5-5. Aerynn Huntsman drew a walk, and she later came home when Kelsey Landriault reached on an error. That put Burton in front 6-5.

However, Sacred Heart added three runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 12-6. Four Burton fielding errors in the final two innings factored into the final outcome.

Lexi Broesche took the loss in the circle. However, out of the twelve runs given up, only four were earned.

Williams just missed hitting for the cycle. She had a double, a triple, and a homer. She just needed a single.

Next up, Burton opens up district play on Tuesday night at Milano High School. The pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
