SALES TAX REBATES DOWN IN MARCH FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, LARGE JUMP FOR BURTON

  

Sales and tax distributions for the month of March were down for Washington County and the City of Brenham, but the City of Burton’s allocation doubled.

The rebate for Washington County in March came out to $363,247, down 0.44 percent from its $364,856 payment in March of last year.  So far this year, the county has reported $1,280,447 in rebates, up 2.49 percent from 2025’s year-to-date collections of $1,249,280.

The City of Brenham brought in a $766,825 rebate this month, a reduction of 3.26 percent from last March’s rebate of $792,704.  The city’s collections to this point in 2026 are down 7.55 percent from a year ago, coming in at $2,631,751 in comparison to the previous year’s $2,846,911.

The City of Burton’s March rebate of $15,704 is up 101.6 percent from this time a year ago, when it received $7,789.  To this point, the city’s receipts total $40,350, up 17.35 percent from the $34,383 tallied through the first three months of 2025.

Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock reported $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations in March, up 2.1 percent from last March and up 3.1 percent for the year so far.

March’s distributions are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.
