SEASON ENDS FOR BLINN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AT REGION XIV TOURNAMENT

The Blinn College women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 62-59 loss to Panola College in the opening round of the Region 14 Tournament on Wednesday in Baytown, Texas.

The Buccaneers concluded their campaign with an 18-13 overall record.

“We played well for 30 minutes today,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Give Panola credit for making plays and scoring 27 points in the fourth quarter.” z

Blinn carried a 45-35 lead into the final period before the Fillies mounted a comeback, outscoring the Buccaneers 27-14 over the final 10 minutes to secure the victory and advance in tournament play.

The Bucs held a 13-9 advantage after the first quarter and led 33-27 at halftime.

Sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte paced Blinn with 14 points, while freshman forward Amyah Weathersby added 10.

Weathersby and sophomore guard Taylor Spencer shared the team lead with seven rebounds apiece.

Wednesday’s contest marked the final junior college appearance for LeCompte, Spencer, and fellow sophomores Jasey Campbell, Jaya Gradney, and Mariah Houston.
