GIDDINGS ISD BEGINNING SEARCH FOR A NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Dr. Ray DeSpain (Giddings ISD)

Giddings ISD is in the market for a new Superintendent of Schools following the resignation of Dr. Ray DeSpain.

At a recent meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously accepted Dr. DeSpain’s resignation.

DeSpain had been the Superintendent since July 1, 2023.

According to the Giddings Times, in recognition of DeSpain’s service, and to ensure a smooth transition, he will assume the title of “Superintendent Emeritus” through his retirement in June. In this new role, he will assist as needed to support continuity and leadership transition efforts.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Shane Holman has been named as Acting Superintendent, and will serve in the role while the board searches for a permanent replacement.

Holman is a Giddings ISD graduate, and has spent 30 years of his career in the District. He has been a teacher, coach, principal, assistant principal, and assistant superintendent.

Holman had also previously served the district as Interim Superintendent in 2023, while the search that led to DeSpain’s hiring was being conducted.
