While it is still early, last (Tuesday) night was a game that both Brenham and Huntsville knew they needed to win. After nearly a three-hour long battle that took ten innings, the Cubettes camp out on top with an 8-7 victory.

Huntsville struck first with a run in the top of the first inning off starting pitcher Laityn Davis.

For the Cubettes, in the bottom of the first inning, McKenzie Tiemann drew a lead-off walk, and she later scored on an RBI single by Harper Castillo to tie the game at 1-1.

The Lady Hornets came back with two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Brenham got one of the runs back in the bottom of the second. Aldyn Jaks led off the inning with a triple, and McKenna Marsters brought her home on an RBI groundout to cut the Huntsville lead to 3-2.

Huntsville tacked on another run in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead. The Lady Hornets were threatening for a bigger inning, but Coach Katie Roberts made the move to bring in Kylie Baker to pitch. Baker got the strikeout to end inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, McKenzie Tiemann got the inning started by hitting a fly ball that was dropped by the centerfielder, and she ended up at second base. Two batters later, Baker hit a sacrifice fly to score Tiemann, and reduce the Huntsville advantage to 4-3.

The Cubettes took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs scoring. Jaks reached on a bunt single. She later scored on an RBI single by Marsters to tie the game 4-4. Isabelle Hyatt came in to run for Marsters, and came around to score on a passed ball to give Brenham a 5-4 lead. Ali Tiemann singled, and Laityn Davis brought her home on an RBI single to extend the Cubettes a 6-4 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, Huntsville took advantage of two Cubette errors that led to three runs, and gave them a 7-6 lead.

Brenham would tie it again in the bottom of the fifth inning. Castillo singled, and she later came around to score on a fielder's choice by Jaks. That made it a 7-7 game.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the 10th inning with Baker, and Huntsville's Makennah Parker putting up zeroes on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the tenth, Sandra Prieto drew a walk, and Jaks beat out a bunt for a hit. Jaycee Hegar hit a fly ball that was caught by the rightfielder. Prieto tagged up and move to third. Marsters would then hit a ground ball to first, and as the out was made, Prieto raced home with the game winning run.

Baker got the win after going 7 1/3 innings of relief, 150 pitches, and 14 strikeouts.

It was also Parents Night at Alumni Field. Prior to the game, the Cubettes honored their Parents with a pregame ceremony.

Next up, Brenham goes on the road to face A&M Consolidated on Friday at 5:30pm.
