BURTON BASEBALL GETS NON-DISTRICT WIN OVER AGGIELAND HOMESCHOOL
The Burton Panther Baseball Team defeated Aggieland Homeschool Athletics 11-5 last (Thursday) night in Franklin. The Panthers were originally supposed to play Richards this week, but it was Richards decided to forfeit their season.
Burton struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Braydon Martin reached on a two-out single. Carter Prigge was brought into the game as a courtesy runner for Martin, but he was not on base long. The next batter, Rueben Rodriguez, hit a two-run homer over the left field fence to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
It would stay that way until the top of the fourth inning, when Burton would add four more runs. Coy Gurka and Tyler Witt hit back-to-back singles. Logun Tosta laid down a bunt, but the AHA pitcher made a throwing error that allowed Gurka and Witt to score. Tosta ended up at third base. He later scored on a passed ball. Martin drew a walk, stole second, and then Prigge came in to run for him. Eli Jaeger would bring Prigge home on sacrifice fly, which gave the Panthers a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, AHA took advantage of two Burton errors to score five times in the frame. The Panthers escaped with a one-run lead, 6-5.
Burton got one of the runs back in the top of the fifth inning. Easton Witt led it off with a single, stole second, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Logun Tosta. That gave The Panthers a 7-5 advantage.
Burton put together one more big inning with four runs in the top of the sixth. Carter Prigge started the frame with a single, and then, he stole both second and third base. Archer Fuller came up and singled Prigge home to give the Panthers an 8-5 lead.
The inning continued with Hank Majewski drawing a walk, and Easton Witt coming in to pinch-run. Next up, Isaac Matthies was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tyler Witt was also hit by a pitch that brought home Fuller. Tosta rounded out the inning with a two-run single to score Majewski and Matthies, which gave Burton an 11-5 lead.
Next up, the Panthers return to district play on Tuesday night when they host the Snook Blue Jays at 6:30pm.
