The 15th-ranked Blinn College softball team split a Region 14 South doubleheader with Angelina College on Saturday at Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers claimed a 2-1 victory in the opener before falling 5-1 in the nightcap to move to 17-5 overall and 3-1 in South play.

“We scored three runs in 14 innings today, so it wasn’t a great offensive performance for us,” Blinn head coach Rick Church said. “We were able to do enough to pull out the win in game one, but we didn’t make enough adjustments throughout the day to earn the sweep.”

Blinn secured its game-one victory behind a strong start from sophomore pitcher Brynn Gallamore and a timely insurance run.

Gallamore (9-1) tossed her eighth complete game of the season, allowing one earned run on six hits with seven walks and nine strikeouts. Angelina threatened in the top of the seventh with an RBI single before Gallamore recorded a strikeout to strand runners on second and third.

“It’s not necessarily what you want, but those situations make the game more fun,” Gallamore said. “I actually like the pressure; it forces you to be at your best and gives you an opportunity to prove yourself.”

Leading 1-0 in the sixth inning, the Buccaneers added an important cushion when sophomore designated hitter Madysen Taylor delivered an RBI single to right field.

“It was a close game, and I knew we were going to need to score some more runs,” Taylor said. “I just stepped into the batter’s box and found some grass in the outfield to drive in our runner.”

Blinn totaled seven hits from seven different players, including a double from sophomore infielder Annie Beckendorf.

Angelina took control early in game two, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the fifth.

Freshman infielder Brianna Moreno provided Blinn’s lone run with an RBI double in the sixth. The Buccaneers again produced seven hits, with Moreno and sophomore catcher/third baseman Cadence Wiese recording two apiece.

Sophomore pitcher Kacie Dudensing (3-1) took the loss after allowing four earned runs on six hits with three walks and one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. Freshman Jamison Wlos delivered a strong relief effort, permitting one unearned run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings.

“Jamison was probably our biggest bright spot today,” Church said. “She really did a great job for us and kept us in it.”

Blinn continues Region 14 South play with a home doubleheader against San Jacinto College-South at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 23.
