Rena Pederson will speak at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham, 314 East Alamo Street, on Friday, April 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pederson is the author of “The King of Diamonds: The Search for the Elusive Texas Jewel Thief”.  The story follows a mysterious jewel thief who, in the 1950’s and ’60s, robbed dozens of the wealthiest families in Dallas.  The thief, whose case Pederson followed as a young reporter, was labeled “The King of Diamonds” for how he was never caught, despite his bold heists where he broke into homes and got away with millions in jewels while the owners were sleeping or hosting parties.

Pederson has interviewed newsmakers ranging from Margaret Thatcher to Fidel Castro and Jane Goodall, as well as five U.S. presidents.  She served on the Pulitzer Prize Board for nine years and received national recognition as Vice President and Editorial Page Editor at The Dallas Morning News for 16 years.  During her tenure at the newspaper, Texas Monthly named her as one of the most powerful women in Texas.

Registration for the program is $25 per person and is due by Friday, April 3rd.  Copies of “The King of Diamonds” and autographs will be available.
