UNITY THEATRE NOW TAKING SIGN-UPS FOR SUMMER DRAMA CAMPS
Registration is now open for Unity Theatre’s Summer Drama Camps.
Students entering grades 2-12 will be able to learn from Unity’s team of teaching artists and performers while taking part in a range of activities designed to engage and inspire.
The camps include Creative Dramatics, for students in grades 2-3; Playbuilding, for grades 4-6; Acting in Performance Jr., for grades 4-6; and Acting in Performance: Showcase, for grades 7-12.
Creative Dramatics will be held July 6-10 from 9 a.m. to noon. The one-week camp will immerse young performers in imagination, movement and theatre games while fostering ensemble skills and team spirit. The week will conclude with a showcase performance for family and friends on Saturday, July 11th at 10 a.m.
Playbuilding will also take place July 6-10 from 1 to 4 p.m. Students will collaborate to create an original piece of theatre while developing skills in character development, storytelling and improvisation. A showcase for family and friends will round out the camp on Saturday, July 11th at noon.
Acting in Performance Jr. is scheduled for July 13-26, with the first week meeting Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the second week meeting Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the first week, students will develop acting skills and strengthen their stage presence. In the second week, campers will be cast in supporting roles in Unity’s summer musical production of “Sleeping Beauty” and will perform in four of the eight scheduled performances July 23-26.
Acting in Performance: Showcase will run July 6-18, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The intensive two-week camp gives students the opportunity to experience the full production process, from audition to final performance. Participants will audition, be cast, rehearse and perform in a black box production of “This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing” by Finegan Kruckemeyer, presented on Unity’s Main Stage July 17-18.
Space in all camps is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Scholarship opportunities are available.
