FIRST EVER LOCAL FEST BRINGS OUT HUNDREDS IN SUPPORT OF NEW NONPROFIT
Big crowds came out to the Washington County Expo this past Saturday for the inaugural edition of a music festival and fundraiser.
The Local Fest, organized by PlanNorth Architectural Co. and board members for the new nonprofit group, The Local Fund, hosted performances from Brenham’s own Ryann Elise, Kody West and headliner Easton Corbin. Guests were also able to enjoy food and beverages from local vendors and participate in a pitch tournament.
According to PlanNorth Principal Architect Katie Burch, who also serves on the board of directors for The Local Fund, around 900 people came out to enjoy the festivities. Burch said she was “completely blown away” by the response not just from those who attended, but the performers themselves.
Proceeds from Local Fest go to The Local Fund, benefitting youth in the community and supporting various opportunities for them, such as covering sports or music lesson fees and purchasing student agriculture or art projects. Burch said the organization wishes to be a strong partner to other local nonprofits as well. Vendors will keep 100 percent of their profits from Local Fest.
Burch thanked all of the volunteers and her fellow members of The Local Fund board, LaToya Beal, Fay Janes-Busse, Josh Wright and Zack Zorn, for their efforts and coordination to bring this event to life as a way to show gratitude to the community and create something lasting.
Burch appreciates the feedback received on the Local Fest and welcomes further input on how to make the coming years’ events even better. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for future festivals, including providing tickets for local first responders.
