CUB BASEBALL STAYS UNBEATEN IN DISTRICT WITH A 13-3 WIN OVER A&M CONSOLIDATED

Luke Hardy (Kaylee Roznovsky)

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team stayed unbeaten in in District 17-5A play after last (Tuesday) night's 13-3 run-rule victory over the A&M Consolidated Tigers at Fireman's Park.

The Tigers struck first with a run in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Cubs came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Luke Hardy and Brody Tucker led it off with back-to-back singles. Caleb Maurer came in to run for Tucker, but was erased after Brayden Steele hit into a fielder's choice. Hardy later scored the Cubs' first run on an error, and Landry Mendoza hit an RBI single to score Steele to give Brenham a 2-1 lead.

A&M Consolidated tied it back up with a run in the top of the third inning to even things up at 2-2.

In the bottom of the third, Drake Bentke was walked, and came around to score on an RBI single by Tucker to give the Cubs a lead again, 3-2.

The see-saw game continued as the Tigers tied it again in with a run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 3-3.

Then, Brenham blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning with six runs. After two outs, Dalton Hart reached on an infield single, and stole second base. Owen Finke beat out an infield hit, which also allowed Hart, who just kept running, to score all the way from second base to put the Cubs in front 4-3.

Then, Bentke and Aschenbeck drew back-to-back walks. Luke Hardy cleared off the bases with a big three-run double to give Brenham a 6-3 lead. Tucker followed with a two-run homer to push the advantage to 8-3.

Landry Mendoza (Kaylee Roznovsky)

The Cubs got an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo homer by Mendoza, which made it a 9-3 game.

Brenham wrapped it up with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to enforce the run rule. Bentke drew his fourth walk of the game. Aschenbeck and Hardy were both hit by pitches to load the bases. Cooper Hodde came in to run for Bentke, and Bleu Cienega came in to run for Hardy. Braydon Steele drew a walk that scored Hodde, Mendoza was hit by a pitch, which scored Aschenbeck, and Brooks Roznovsky drew a walk that scored Cienega with the game winning run.

Hardy went all six innings, allowing five hits and three runs, while walking three, and striking out six.

The win improves Brenham to 16-8-1 overall and 7-0 in district. The series continues tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station. KWHI will broadcast live on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
