PANTHER BASEBALL DEFEATS MUMFORD 10-2 IN DISTRICT PLAY
The Burton Panther Baseball Team pulled off a big district win last (Tuesday) night as they defeated the Mumford Mustangs 10-2.
The Panthers got it started with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tyler Witt drew a leadoff walk, and came around to score after a couple of fielding errors by Mumford. Braydon Martin hit a double, and scored the second run on an RBI double by Ryder Biggs. Biggs would then score on a passed ball later in the frame to give Burton the early 3-0 lead.
Burton tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Coy Gurka reached on an error, and Witt walked. Logun Tosta followed with a two-run double to bring them both home, and make it 5-0 Panthers.
In the third inning, Burton added an additional run. Biggs and Eli Jaeger had back-to back singles. Biggs scored on an error to give the Panthers a 6-1 lead.
The Panthers scored three runs in the fourth inning Martin walked, and Rodriguez singled. Easton Witt came in to run for Martin. Biggs laid a bunt down, and another error by Mumford allowed Witt and Rodriguez to both score. Biggs later came home on a passed ball to increase the Burton advantage in the game to 9-1.
Mumford was able to score one more time in the top of the sixth, but by then Burton was firmly in command.
Tyler Witt went all seven innings to get the win. The Panthers are now 15-3 overall and 4-1 district.
Next up, Burton is going to be at Mumford tomorrow (Thursday) at 5pm.
