CUBETTE SOFTBALL GETS BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK BY BEATING MONTGOMERY

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team got back on the winning track last (Wednesday) night with a 5-1 victory over the Montgomery Lady Bears.

The game was pushed up from Thursday to Wednesday due to the threat of inclement weather. The 5:30pm start time was then pushed back to 6pm, because Montgomery's bus broke down on the way to the game.

Once it got started, the night belonged to the Cubettes.

In the bottom of the first inning, McKenzie Tiemann drew a leadoff walk. Harper Castillo attempted a sacrifice bunt, but Montgomery's pitcher Anabella Kilpatrick overthrew first base allowing her to reach on an error. Laityn Davis drew a walk to load the bases. Kylie Baker brought home Tiemann on a sacrifice fly. Aldyn Jacks followed with a sacrifice fly of her own that scored Castillo, and made it 2-0 Cubettes.

Montgomery got on the board in the top of the second inning, Maeleigh Jordan smashed a solo homer over the left field fence to cut the Brenham lead to 2-1.

The Cubettes came back with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 4-1. Sandra Prieto started the inning off with a single, and took second on an error. Isabelle Hyatt singled in Prieto, and then took second as the throw came home. Castillo drove in Hyatt with an RBI double.

Brenham tacked on another run in the bottom of the third inning as Baker singled and came around to score when Prieto hit into a fielder's choice. That made the score 5-1 Cubettes.

Laityn Davis got the start and the win after going the first four innings, allowing only three hits and one run, did not walk a batter, and struck out two. Kylie Baker shutout Montgomery over the final three innings allowing just one hit, and striking out four.

Brenham also played a great defensive game where they did not commit any errors, while Montgomery had four errors in the field.

Next up, the Cubettes will be traveling Bryan Rudder on Tuesday for a 5pm game. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 4:35pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
