EASTER WEEKEND ARRESTS FOR BRENHAM PD INCLUDE SMUGGLING WARRANT, EVASION, ASSAULT

  

Brenham police made five arrests between Friday and Sunday.

Ulises Ortega

Shortly after 12:45 p.m. Friday, Officer Rosa Salinas conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of Highway 290 West.  After further investigation, the driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Ulises Ortega of Cleveland, Texas, was taken into custody for an active warrant out of La Salle County for Smuggling of Persons.  Once the warrant was confirmed, Ortega was transported to the Washington County Jail.

At 5:30 p.m., Officer LeDarion Jenkins was dispatched to a disturbance in the 2000 block of FM 389.  After investigation, police placed 53-year-old Timoteo Gonzalez Manzano of Brenham into custody.  Manzano was transported to the Washington County Jail for Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member.

Close to 6:45 p.m., Corporal James Catchings conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Highway 290 East.  Police say their investigation revealed an odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle, and that THC and a weapon were found in the vehicle after a probable cause search.  The driver, identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Washington of Houston, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2, Less Than a Gram and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Shortly after 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Officer Jenkins attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 200 block of Highway 290 East on a vehicle associated with a possible wanted subject and for expired registration.  According to police, the vehicle failed to stop and continued on public roadways at a high rate of speed, resulting in a brief vehicle pursuit.  Police say the pursuit continued until the vehicle spun out and crashed into a guardrail on West Blue Bell Road near Burleson Street.  The driver, identified as 20-year-old Marcus Jay Underwood of Brenham, was taken into custody without further incident.  Underwood was transported to the Washington County Jail, where he was booked for Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana Under 2oz., Reckless Driving, and two warrants out of Washington County for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Assault of a Pregnant Person.

Nearing 8:30 p.m. Sunday, K9 Sergeant Jimmy Ha and Officer Jenkins responded to a disturbance in the 1900 block of Northview Circle Drive.  After further investigation, 43-year-old Clyde Williams of Brenham was taken into custody for Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport; Injury to a Child/Elderly/Disabled Individual with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury; and Continuous Violence Against the Family.  Williams also had an active warrant out of Washington County for Failure to Yield Right of Way at Stop Intersection.
