BURTON PANTHERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER OVER SOMERVILLE
The Burton Panther Baseball Team continues to roll the competition in District 26-2A as they swept a doubleheader over the Somerville Yeguas last (Tuesday) night.
Due to concerns over the weather for Friday, the two teams decided to play both games in one evening. Burton won the opener 15-0.
Easton Witt picked up the win after going three no-hit innings and striking out eight batters.
Burton jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Logun Tosta led it off with a single, and he scored later in the frame on a passed ball. Braydon Martin walked, and then Carter Prigge came in as a courtesy runner. Prigge later scored the second run for the Panthers on another passed ball by Somerville. Rueben Rodriguez also walked, and he later came home on an RBI single by Eli Jaeger to give Burton a 3-0 lead.
The Panther offense exploded for 12 runs in the second inning to put the game away. Among the key hits were RBI singles by Tyler Witt, Eli Jaeger, Coy Gurka, and Isaac Matthies. They also had a sacrifice fly by Braydon Martin.

In the second game, Burton defeated Somerville 10-0.
Rueben Rodriguez got the win going five scoreless innings, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out four.
The Panthers struck first. Tyler Witt was hit by a pitch, stole second, stole third, and then came home on a sacrifice fly by Braydon Martin. That made it 1-0.
Burton scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Coy Gurka singled to start off the frame. Tyler Witt reached on an error that also allowed Gurka to come around and score. Logun Tosta followed with an RBI double to score Witt. He later advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a passed ball. Rodriguez doubled, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryder Biggs, which increased the Panther lead to 5-0.
Burton finished it off with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for their second mercy rule victory of the day. Tosta had an RBI single, and the other four runs scored off of errors.
With the wins Burton is now 18-3 overall, and 7-1 in district.
