LADY PANTHER SOFTBALL STAYS UNBEATEN IN DISTRICT WITH SWEEP OF SNOOK

The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team stayed unbeaten in District 26-2A play last (Tuesday) night with a doubleheader sweep over the Snook Lady Blue Jays.

Burton won the first game, which was stopped after three innings, 16-0.

The Lady Panthers got it started off with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Natalie Hodde was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and then she scored on an RBI single by Amaya Williams. Leliah Ellis drew a walk, and Abby Dowling came in as a courtesy runner. Aerynn Huntsmann would then rip a two-run double to bring home both Williams and Dowling. That made it 3-0 Burton after just the first inning.

In the second inning, Burton's offense exploded for 13 runs in the second inning and never looked back. Among the big hits in the inning, Lexi Broesche had an RBI double, Williams added an RBI triple, and Kelsey Landriault smashed a two-run double.

Lexi Broesche pitched three no-hit innings. Her only blemishes came in the second on a walk, and a hit batter. All nine of the outs that she recorded were strikeouts.

Burton won the second game 18-3 over the Lady Blue Jays. Snook struck first by scoring a run in the top of the first inning. After that, it was all Lady Panthers.

Paige Fritsch (Burton ISD)

Burton scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lexi Broesche walked, Natalie Hodde single, Amaya Williams walked, and then Paige Fritsch cleaned off the bases with a grand slam. Abby Dowling added an RBI single in the frame, while three runs scored on error, one on a bases loaded walk. Fritsch came up for the second time in the inning and put the exclamation point on it with a two-run triple.

The Lady Panthers added five runs in the second inning to expand their advantage to 16-1. Snook came back with two in the top of the third to cut the lead to 16-3. However, Burton finished it off in the bottom of the third with two runs for the 18-3 victory.

The Lady Panthers are now 14-12 overall and 8-0 in district. They are next scheduled to travel to Mumford for a 6pm game on Tuesday night.
