The Weimar Police Department on Monday announced Jason Smalley’s appointment as chief of police, filling the position left vacant after the resignation of David Socha in December.

Smalley retired as Bellville’s police chief in August after having held the role since 2021 and serving in the department since 2005.  He previously worked with Harris County and the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, and he is a 1992 graduate of Bellville High School.

The Weimar Police Department said Smalley brings “a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and a strong vision for the department’s future.”

Smalley wrote that he is “truly blessed” and “very excited for this new opportunity.”
