WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO MEET TUESDAY

Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday with plans for workshop discussions on a potential county spay/neuter program and the assignment of county offices.

At the Brenham City Council’s latest meeting, local resident Carol Collins presented a $20,000 donation to the City of Brenham to fund spay/neuter procedures for pet owners in the county.  Collins, who urged the county to find ways to allocate money toward the program, is scheduled to speak at the commissioners court workshop.

The workshop will also go over the assignment of county offices to the Washington County Courthouse Annex and the former ATS Irrigation building that is being turned into a records storage facility.

During regular session on Tuesday, commissioners will consider a proposed interlocal cooperation contract with the Texas Department of Public Safety regarding the continued agreement to provide analysis of seized drugs.

A companion item will be a proposed interlocal agreement regarding payment for DPS crime lab services between Washington, Austin, Fayette and Lee counties.  The agreement was first approved in 2022.

Commissioners will take up several items for the E911 Department, including a proclamation recognizing April 12-18 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.  Several businesses and organizations are presenting donations to the department for the court to accept, such as:

  • $100 from the Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Department;
  • Insulated mugs from Jud’s Food Stores Inc.;
  • A round of golf for four, including two carts, from the Brenham Country Club;
  • Entrée vouchers from Chick-fil-A Brenham;
  • “911 Dispatcher” foldable camping chairs from the Brazos Valley Council of Governments;
  • Backpacks containing snacks and assorted appreciation items from Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union.

The Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
