BLINN EXPANDS WASHINGTON & AUSTIN CO. SCHOLARSHIPS TO COVER MORE STUDENT EXPENSES

The Blinn College District and the Blinn College Foundation have announced a significant enhancement to their Washington County and Austin County scholarship programs, allowing funds to be used for a broader range of student expenses beginning in fall 2026.

Previously limited to tuition, the scholarships may now be applied to additional costs associated with attending college, including fees, housing, food service, books, and other auxiliary expenses. Eligible students can continue to receive up to $2,250 in total support during their first year after high school, with awards of up to $750 per semester for three consecutive semesters.

“This enhancement reflects our commitment to making college more affordable and accessible for local students,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District. “College expenses go beyond tuition, and we recognize that students face a range of costs as they pursue their education. This expansion allows our scholarships to better reflect those realities and provide more meaningful support.”

Both scholarships may be used toward academic transfer courses, workforce training programs, and both credit and non-credit classes, whether taken in person at any Blinn campus or online.

There are no financial need requirements, and the scholarships are awarded on a last-dollar basis, meaning funds are applied after all other financial aid has been awarded. Scholarship funds cover up to 12 credit hours per semester and are available for up to three consecutive semesters following high school graduation or completion of a high school equivalency certificate.

To qualify, students must:

  • be Texas residents who have resided, paid taxes, or owned property in Washington or Austin County for at least the six consecutive months prior to registering for the semester they wish to attend;
  • have graduated from any public, private, or home-school high school or earned their high school equivalency in December 2025 or later;
  • complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.
  • apply to Blinn College at ApplyTexas.org;
  • submit the Endowed Scholarship Application at www.blinn.edu/scholarships;
  • and maintain a 2.0 GPA at Blinn College (if applicable) to receive the scholarship for the subsequent semester.
