COLUMBUS SCHOOL BOARD SELECTS NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Chris Carpenter (Slaton ISD)

The Columbus ISD Board of Trustees has selected their lone finalist to be the new Superintendent of Schools.

At their meeting on Wednesday, the Board selected Slaton ISD Assistant Superintendent Chris Carpenter for the position.

After using the Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services, consultants worked with the Board to survey the community about what qualities they wanted in the next Superintendent, and came up with a framework.

The framework was used to evaluate candidates and come up with guidelines in the selection process.

Board Members in Columbus selected six for an initial round of interviews, and then later narrowed it down to two before selecting Carpenter.

By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire him. A meeting to make it official has been scheduled for May 14.

Carpenter is slated to replace outgoing Superintendent Jim Connor, who back in January, announced his plans to retire on June 30 of this year.
