The 12th-ranked Blinn College men’s golf team shot 2-over par and finished in a tie for fourth place at the two-day South Central District Championship on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas.
Fourth-ranked McLennan Community College claimed the team title at 19-under par.
Thirteen teams were in the field.
“I was pleased with the way the guys competed in all three rounds,” Buccaneers head coach David Johnson said. “Our district is made up of many of the top 15 teams in the nation, so finishing in a tie for fourth was impressive.”
Blinn was paced by sophomore Ben Potter and freshman Broc Talamantez, who each shot 3-under par and tied for seventh place. The duo became the first players in program history to place inside the top 10 at the district tournament.
Sophomores Cody Peters and Jaxon Daniele also turned in strong performances, tying for 19th place at 4-over par.
A total of 76 golfers competed in the event.
Blinn will now await its fate for the upcoming NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The Buccaneers are aiming to qualify for the national tournament for the fifth time in program history and for the second consecutive season, and appear to be in position to receive an at-large bid.
Blinn also finished as the Region 14 runner-up to No. 8 Tyler Junior College. The Buccaneers and Tyler battled for the regional crown across five rounds of play spanning two tournaments, including the East Texas State Championship on April 20.
Potter and Talamantez were also named to the Region 14 All-Tournament Team.
