ATTIC FIRE, GAS ODOR AMONG WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department responded to five calls between Saturday and Sunday.
At 8:45 a.m. Saturday, units were dispatched to a fire alarm at a residence in the 1300 block of Higgins Street. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the home. The homeowner advised that the alarm was set off while cooking, so the alarm was reset.
At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, BFD members went out to Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Rippetoe Street for a report of a strong gas odor in the area. The fire department and City of Brenham Gas Department found a valve in the street leaking. The gas department repaired the valve, and the fire department cleared the call.
Around 5:45 a.m., firefighters responded to an alarm at the North Park Apartments, 910 North Park Street. Upon arrival, they found nothing showing from the outside of the building and no alarms going off in the area, so they returned to service.
Approaching 10 a.m., the department received a report of an alarm at a residence in the 400 block of East Main Street. Nothing was detected from the outside of the building. The homeowner advised that steam set the alarm off. The alarm was reset.
Close to 7:45 p.m., units were called out to a structure fire at a home in the 1000 block of Higgins Street. They arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the outside of the home. Firefighters entered the home to extinguish the attic fire and perform ventilation. Members of the Chappell Hill, Meyersville and Salem Volunteer Fire Departments assisted with manpower.
