BURTON SCHOOL BOARD PASSES RESOLUTION TO ISSUE MAINTENANCE TAX NOTES
The Burton School Board on Monday passed a resolution authorizing the issuance of obligations designated as Series 2026 maintenance tax notes.

Team were honored by the Burton School Board on
Monday.
Superintendent Vikki Curry said the maintenance tax notes are being considered specifically for cafeteria renovations, but a portion may also be used to reimburse Burton ISD for other unforeseen maintenance-related repairs and replacements that were necessary to keep facilities operational.
The financing structure is for 15 years at a 4.25 percent interest rate. Curry said the principal amount being borrowed and the final terms are still being finalized as part of the financing process. Repayment would come from maintenance and operations property tax revenue.
In a bond construction update, Weaver and Jacobs Constructors Project Manager Ryan Malinovsky said the majority of flooring work is done in the athletics and administration area, minus the gym floor, weight room floor and anything sealed concrete. He said tile work is about 95 percent finished, ceilings are in place and units are started up, so he feels they are “in a good spot” in that area. Additionally, crews have corrected issues with water intrusion in the gym that were reported last month, so he expects the flooring process can start in there next week. He said the overhead work is already done, and the equipment is in.
Also at Monday’s meeting, trustees approved a localized board policy manual update to keep in compliance with Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) updates. They then agreed to amend board policy to add the child nutrition director and remove the maintenance director from the list of employees who shall be employed on a non-Chapter 21 contract under Texas Education Code.
The board heard department reports from child nutrition, transportation and athletics. It also recognized members of the high school golf, track, baseball and softball teams, as well as the recipients of the district's year-end teacher and staff awards. They are:
- Auxiliary Staff – Jessica Stewart
- Support Staff – Sgt. Guillermo Guerrero
- Elementary Paraprofessional – Rebeka Wickel
- Elementary Teacher – Courtney Wilson
- Secondary Paraprofessional – Rob Wilson
- Secondary Teacher – Patricia Thaler
