Work is nearing completion on a new Texas Department of Transportation facility south of Brenham.

TxDOT is building a joint Brenham Area Engineering and Maintenance facility at 4350 Highway 36 South.

According to Bob Colwell, Public Information Officer for TxDOT’s Bryan District, the site includes an administrative office, shop and lab areas, a truck wash, a salt brine shed, 5-bay and 10-bay equipment sheds, and a fuel station.

Colwell said the cost of the project is approximately $21.5 million.  The timeframe for expected completion is mid- to late-September.

TxDOT’s existing Brenham Area Engineering and Maintenance facility is located at 1821 Highway 105.

When asked if the Texas Department of Public Safety would also be housed at the new facility, Colwell said that would not be the case.  He did say, though, that DPS has been considering purchasing TxDOT’s old property, but there is not confirmation yet on who will purchase it.
