FATAL SHOOTING IN BRENHAM UNDER INVESTIGATION

Brenham police are investigating a fatal weekend shooting.

The police department says it responded at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a reported weapons-related incident in the 800 block of Pleasantview Avenue.  Officers learned that a shooting had occurred and found 25-year-old Laterius Ragston of Brenham had suffered gunshot wounds.

Ragston was treated by officers on scene and was transported for emergency care, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The Brenham Police Criminal Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation alongside the Texas Rangers into the circumstances surrounding the incident and is working to determine those responsible for the shooting.  No suspects have been identified.

The investigation includes the execution of a search warrant at an unnamed location in Hempstead, conducted with assistance from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Hempstead Police Department, Austin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Teams, and Washington County EMS.

The department extends its condolences to Ragston’s family and loved ones during this time and encourages anyone with information to contact Sergeant Ashley Burns at 979-337-7369.

Police say additional information will be released as it becomes available and as the integrity of the ongoing investigation permits.
