BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM TO HOST LECTURE FRIDAY ON RECONSTRUCTION IN WASHINGTON CO.
The Brenham Heritage Museum will welcome back a professor and historian for a guest lecture on Friday about “Reconstruction in Washington County”.
Dr. John Lundberg, who came to speak at the museum in February, will examine the turbulent years following the Civil War through a local lens, revealing how national policies and grassroots realities collided. Friday’s presentation at the museum, part of the Dr. Wilfred Dietrich Speaker Series, will run from 6 to 7 p.m.
The lecture will explore the struggles of formerly enslaved people seeking freedom and citizenship, the tensions between federal authority and local resistance, and the political, social, and economic transformations that reshaped Washington County.
Dr. Lundberg is a professor of history at Tarrant County College and holds a Ph.D. in 19th century U.S. History from Texas Christian University. He is the author of the award-winning book, “The Texas Lowcountry: Slavery and Freedom on the Gulf Coast, 1822-1895”, which won the 2025 Summerlee Book Prize for Nonfiction of the Year.
A members-only reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. and will include food and refreshments.
Admission is free for museum members and $15 for non-members. Copies of Dr. Lundberg’s book will be available for sale after the program.
