OFF-DUTY MONTGOMERY CO. OFFICER KILLED IN AUSTIN CO. CRASH

  

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred over the weekend in Austin County, killing an off-duty law enforcement official.

According to DPS Sgt. Stephen Woodward, the crash occurred on Saturday just after 1pm at the intersection of FM 2502 and FM 2754 between Industry and Bellville.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2024 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling southwest on FM 2754 and approaching FM 2502.

At the same time, a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas was traveling southeast on FM 2502 and approaching FM 2754.

After stopping at the posted stop sign, the motorcycle reportedly entered the intersection and failed to yield the right of way to the Volkswagen. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, ejecting the motorcycle operator.

The motorcycle operator, 21-year-old Anon Vaughn Hoffman of Montgomery, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 49-year-old Kimberly Latrisha Lewis of Rosharon, and a 17-year-old passenger reported no injuries.

They were transported to Mid Coast Medical Center-Bellville for further evaluation.

According to a post on the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Hoffman worked as a detention officer.

The post asked for thoughts and prayers for the family. Both of Hoffman’s parents work for the Sheriff’s Office as well.

His father is a Sergeant, and his mother works in the Central Jail Records Division.
