- 11 as Texas Extension Education Association Week.

Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday reviewed concepts for the proposed multi-purpose facility at the Expo.

PlanNorth Principal Architect Katie Burch presented slides that illustrated the ways the open floor space could be arranged and utilized for various uses, like livestock shows, community events, band practices, festivals, graduation ceremonies, trade shows and car shows.  The covered, open-air facility will appear on the November 3rd ballot as a $15.45 million bond measure.

Burch said the designs allow for the possibility to further build onto the facility as time and funding allow.

The facility is projected to seat between 3,000 and 3,200 people in the stands, not including seats that could go on the floor of the facility.  Improvements also being looked at through the project would include better accessibility and walkability around the Expo site, traffic flow in and around the facility, and lighting upgrades.

Burch said this time is important to collaborate with different community groups and stakeholders to determine how the building could be developed to best meet their needs.

The slides shown during the presentation can be seen below.

Early voting for the November 3rd election begins on Monday, October 19th.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners:

  • Approved the hire of an EMS Division Chief – Compliance for a pay rate exceeding the 6 percent allowable amount in accordance with county policy.  The hire is being made internally to fill an existing vacant position at a salary of $96,124, roughly $3,000 over the 6 percent allowable without commissioner approval.
  • Read a proclamation declaring October 5-11 as Texas Extension Education Association Week.  Representatives from the volunteer organization presented a check to commissioners in the amount of $66,277, representing both the monetary amount donated and the value of volunteer hours contributed by members in the past year.
  • Approved a memorandum of understanding between EMS and the Brazos Valley Regional Advisory Council (BVRAC) regarding EMS provider responsibilities and requirements for participation in the BVRAC prehospital whole blood program.
  • Authorized a correction to the new elections office address at the Washington County Courthouse Annex, updating it from 105 West Main Street, Suite 100 to Suite 101.
  • Approved budget amendments and line-item transfers.
