The third annual Copper Star Award ceremony, organized by PlanNorth Architectural Company and held at The Barn at Pleasant Hill, recognized six individuals who have made a lasting impact through leading by example, demonstrating exceptional work ethic and integrity, and inspiring others through their service and dedication.

This year’s Copper Star Award nominees are:

  • Amy Bentke
  • Fay Janes-Busse
  • Natalie Hughes
  • Robert Mabrey Jr.
  • Suzanne Flasowski
  • Trina Crenshaw

Mabrey was selected as the recipient of the Copper Star Award.  Mabrey is a retired military veteran and community servant through several local organizations like Faith Mission, the Washington County Ministerial Association, Washington County Jail Ministry, Camptown Cemetery and local nursing home ministries.  Mabrey said endurance and perseverance are what make people strong.

All of the honorees received a handcrafted copper dog tag created by Scott Somerlatte Originals.  Mabrey will also be able to direct a $1,000 community donation underwritten by PlanNorth to a local nonprofit of his choice.

Copper Star recipients are determined through an open community nomination process.  Those who submitted nominations were asked to provide examples of their nominee’s positive attributes, work-related and character references, and a verse or quote that embodies the candidate.  Nominations were open to those who live in Washington County.
