County commissioners moved after a prolonged executive session today (Tuesday) to accept the resignation of Harrison Williams, who had served as director at the Expo since July 2020. The resignation is effective immediately.
Commissioners went into executive session at approximately 9:39 a.m. and remained behind closed doors until 12:11 p.m.
The motion to “take disciplinary action by issuing disciplinary record of counseling and to accept the resignation of the Expo Director” passed 4-0. Commissioner Candice Bullock was not present at the meeting.
The nature of what brought the item before commissioners has not been made public.
At the time of the commissioners’ vote, a citizen came forward to speak positively on Williams’ behalf, saying Williams has done a “very, very good job for the Washington County Expo” and has been “more than qualified.” County Clerk Nick Prenzler asked the individual to provide his name for the meeting minutes, but the man left the courtroom immediately afterwards.
Commissioners made no comments prior to or after their decision. The county has not stated who will oversee the Expo in the interim or what the process will look like to name a new director.
