The Brenham Cub Marching Band is going back to State!

A marathon day at Ray Maddry Stadium in Channelview for the Class 5A Area E Competition on Saturday ended up being well worth the wait as the Cub Band finished in fifth place overall, and they will be making a return trip to the Alamo City.

Brenham presented their show "The Ancient Mystery of Stonehenge" at the event. They finished in fifth place in the preliminary round. The top 12 schools chosen by the judges advanced to the finals later that evening.

There were three judges scoring for music, and two scoring for visuals. In the preliminaries, the Cub Band were ranked by the music judges in 8th, 4th, and 5th place respectively. The visual judges ranked them 5th and 11th.

In the finals, on the music side, the judge who ranked them 8th moved them up to 4th, the second judge kept Brenham at 4th, and the third judge dropped them from 5th to 8th. Meanwhile, for the visual judges, one dropped the Cubs from 5th to 6th, while the other moved Brenham from 11th to 2nd.

When the final totals were tallied, Brenham ended up fifth overall, and earning their second straight trip to the State Competition, which will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on November 2. Last year, the Cub Marching Band made their first trip to State after a 14-year absence.

The top six teams in the Area finals advanced to State. The top four finishers were Friendswood, La Porte, Richmond Tomas, and New Caney West Fork. Richmond Randle rounded out the top six qualifiers.
