BURTON’S GOLDBERG GOING TO STATE CROSS COUNTRY MEET

(Story by Coach Kurt Ramsey, Burton High School)

Division 2A Region IV met on Monday to determine the best runners to send to the State Meet and the Burton Lady Panthers count one of their runners in that elite group.

Freshman standout Paisley Goldberg, in her first regional appearance, clocked a seasonal and personal best 2-mile time of 12:10 to clinch seventh place overall, a medal, and a berth in the Austin race. Finishing second for the Lady Panthers was Junior, and Team Captain, Autumn Applewhite, whose 13:35 finish was also a personal best. Madeline Dowling (Jr.) was third for the ladies, with teammates Isabella Alvarado (Fr.), Dani York (Fr.), and Rose Nall (Fr.) rounding out the finishers.

The Panthers ran in the following race. While the Panthers did not get any runners out of Regionals, they showed they have something to build on for next year, with a Top 10 finish for only the second time in school history. Finishing first for the Panthers was Zach Purvis (Jr.) with a 19:38. Following his example by getting under the 20 minute mark were Even Guerrero (So.) and Matthais Countouriotis (Fr.) with a 19:56 and a 19:57, respectively, both personal bests for the young men. Rounding at the Panther's team were Bowen Levlon (Fr.), Colton Vickers (So.), Dylan Dallmeyer (Jr.), and James Jarvis (Fr.).

Paisley Goldberg will finish out the season for Burton at the 2A State Meet next Friday, November 6th in Old Settler's Park, Round Rock. The 2A Girls race will begin at 9:30am.
