ELECTION 2026: U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 27
Washington County voters are choosing who will represent them in Austin and Washington, D.C. as early voting continues for the November midterms.
One race on the ballot is for the newly redistricted U.S. Congressional District 27, pitting Republican incumbent Michael Cloud against Democratic challenger Tanya Lloyd.
Michael Cloud has background as a small business owner and has served as District 27’s representative since 2018, with positions on the Appropriations and the Oversight and Accountability House Committees. He says service as a congressman requires action not only with big-ticket issues and representing the district to ensure it receives the most federal resources possible, but also being a bridge between citizens and the government.
Cloud says he aims to continue focusing his work on the United States military and defense, energy, water and manufacturing, while also watching over the country’s fiscal health and addressing waste, fraud and abuse.
Cloud says everyone is called to serve in some capacity and that there is work to be done to leave a better country for future generations.
Tanya Lloyd is an educator, teaching kindergarten in Lockhart. She says serving in Congress requires listening to constituents and understanding their needs, as well as those of the district as a whole.
Some of Lloyd’s points of emphasis include affordability, environmental protections, healthcare and education. She believes everyday citizens are being overshadowed by corporations and large organizations, and she wants to make sure those citizens’ needs are prioritized.
Lloyd says she will fight for constituents and their best interests like a mother would.
Early voting continues through Friday. Election Day is next Tuesday, November 3rd.
