WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE COMMUNITY SERVICE CONTRACTS

The Washington County Commissioners Court approved a number of community service contracts during their meeting today (Tuesday).

The commissioners have contracts with different community organizations that provide services to certain sectors of the public. Among the organizations, the commissioners approved a contract between the county and the Washington County Healthy Living Association. The association has seen a huge influx in membership, adding an additional 900 members since opening the new senior center last February. The Washington County Healthy Living Association is the only organization in a seven county area that serves hot meals to senior citizens.

Judge John Brieden says the contract specifically deals with meals being served by the association:

The commissioners also approved three other annual contracts: Focusing Families for $500, Scotty’s House for $1,000, and Mission Brenham for $2,000.

In other business, the commissioners approved the candidates to be appointed to the Washington County Historical Commission. Candidates that were approved include: Becky Barton, Nancy Rosenbaum, Dr. Wilfred Dietrich, Jane Barnhill, John Barnhill, John Barton, Teddy Boehm, Joycine Hanath, Eddie Harrison, Zeb Heckmann, Mary Tom Middlebrooks, Peggy Moser, Beth Rothermel, Barbara Schoenemann, Gertrude Schroeder, Stanley Sommer, and Thomas Stevens.

The commissioners also gave the Washington County Sheriff’s Office the authority to purchase a 2017 Chevy Tahoe for transport purposes from a state contract vendor. The vehicle will cost $31,976 and will be purchased with budgeted funds. Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak says it is important to have a dependable vehicle, since transport cars often travel outside of cell service areas. The vehicle that is being replaced blew the engine while in transport, and the cost estimated to fix it was over $7,000.

In other business, the commissioners approved the 2017 Washington County holiday schedule and approved the dates and times for the commissioners meetings for the remainder of 2016 and 2017.
