April 2, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

The Independence Historical Society will be conducting FREE tours of the historic homes between 10:00–4:00 on Saturday, March 19 and 26 and Saturday, April 2 and 9.  IHS docents will lead tours through the John P. Coles House built in 1820.  Coles was one of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old 300” settlers and the house is furnished from that period.  Children can play school in the Old Gay Hill school house and visitors to the dog trop Log Cabin will see a loom and other implements from the period.  There will be a black smith in action, stitchers on the porch, and live dulcimer music.  Step back in time to the early days of Texas and see what life was like for these early Texans.  Young and old will enjoy these tours in a beautiful spot near Old Baylor in Independence.  For information, email ihsindependencetexas1836@gmail.com or look for us on Facebook.
