ARTIST JEFF SOTO TO SPEAK AT BLINN COLLEGE OCTOBER 19TH

The Blinn College Department of Art will welcome famed artist Jeff Soto Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Blinn-Brenham Student Center Conference Room.

Soto specializes in painting, illustration, and murals, and has exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. He will speak at Blinn College before attending the Texas Arts & Music Festival in Brenham.

“It is a great opportunity for us to exemplify a career in the arts from someone who is doing it successfully,” said Douglas Cason, Visual Arts Professor. “It is a good, practical example of what an art career could be and how to maneuver in that world.”

Soto will speak about one of his most recent projects, creating concert posters for Metallica, and how he has used his graphic design skills to create concert posters, large murals, and various other projects.

“To have somebody of his caliber here to show us his work, talk about his work, and then the next day actually paint his work, is really incredible,” Cason said.

The event is open to the public at no cost.

Soto will attend the Texas Arts & Music Festival Oct. 20-22 to paint a three-story mural on the back of the historic JH Faske Building in downtown Brenham. The festival is free to the public and features mural artists, live music, food trucks, and an art village.
