WELFARE CHECK LEADS TO ARREST ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

A welfare check on a person sleeping in a vehicle has led to an arrest on several drug charges.
Brenham Police report that Wednesday morning at 3:20, Officer Richelle Taylor and Corporal Ashley Burns were dispatched to the 1300 block of Prairie Lea St in reference to a welfare concern. Upon arrival, a subject was located inside a vehicle who appeared to be asleep. Further investigation revealed the subject to be in possession of prescription pills, marijuana and a firearm. Austin Barrett, 28 of New Ulm, was taken into custody and additional controlled substance were found after he made entry into the jail. Barrett is charged with three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, Unlawful Carrying of Weapon, and Prohibited Substance in a Detention Facility.
