AUSTIN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT RAISES CONSTABLE SALARIES
The Austin County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to increase constable salaries during a recent meeting.
Commissioners all opted to increase Precinct 3 and 4 constable salaries to $27,150 per year, up from the current $13,580 per year.
Since only four months remain in the current fiscal year, the actual increase to the budget for the remainder of this year comes out to $10,490. The requested amount had been an increase to $45,000. Austin County Judge Tim Lapham told commissioners that these salary increases could be taken in steps, instead of all at once.
Justices of the Peace in Precincts 3 and 4 have expressed concerns about safety in their courts. The Commissioners Court hopes this change will allow constables to be present during court sessions in each precinct.
