GRIMES CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNS AGAINST PHONE SCAM
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents, following reports of a recent scam.
The Sheriff’s Office said, in a post on its Facebook page, that it has received multiple complaints from citizens reporting calls from people posing as Sheriff’s Office employees. Reports say the scammers would claim to be Captain Ryan Rutledge, Lieutenant Daniel Wagnon, and Livestock Officer Randy Cleere.
These scammers are said to be demanding money for legal process, such as outstanding warrants. The scammer tells the victim to obtain money gift cards or other forms of payment from their local Dollar General, and share the card numbers to prevent further legal action.
The phone number commonly being used by the scammers is 936-203-8900. This same number was used in a similar scam several weeks ago in Madison County, where scammers posed as Madison County Sheriff’s Sergeant Tyler Ogle.
If anyone receives a call like this, or has questions, they can contact the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at 936-873-2151.
