AMNESTY PERIOD ENDING FOR GREAT TEXAS WARRANT ROUNDUP

  

Today (Friday) is the last day of the Great Texas Warrant Roundup.

Anyone with outstanding warrants still has time to resolve their cases voluntarily, before authorities begin actively targeting those defendants.

Starting tomorrow (Saturday), agencies such as Brenham Municipal Court and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will step up efforts to serve warrants.  Authorities warn that arrests can take place at any location, including the defendant’s home, school, or workplace.

Brenham City Marshal Mark Pierce said over the course of this amnesty period, approximately 108 people have cleared their warrants without arrest.

Under state law, those that come before a court and make a good faith effort to take care of their outstanding Class C warrants are afforded safe harbor, and not subject to arrest.  Additionally, if a judgment is rendered against someone unable to pay it, that person can ask a judge to consider their ability to pay and offer other means to satisfy the judgment.

Anyone with warrants is encouraged to contact the courts that issued them to resolve their cases voluntarily, before they are bound to appear by arrest.
