FIRE AT LOCAL MOTEL DAMAGES ROOM

The Brenham Fire Department was called out to a report of a fire at a local motel, Saturday night.

Just before 8:30, firefighters were called to the Knights Inn on Highway 290 East, where they found one room fully involved in fire.

The fire was extinguished and smoke was removed from two rooms.  The Fire Department and Brenham Police evacuated the entire building as a precaution.

No one was in the room where the fire started.  Everyone was allowed to return to their rooms about 45 minutes after they were evacuated.

A maintenance person and his wife were transported to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation, after the maintenance man tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher.

One room had major fire and smoke damage and two others had smoke and water damage. Several guests were relocated to different rooms due to smoke odor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
