FIRE AND ICE COOKOFF THIS WEEKEND IN INDEPENDENCE

  

The Fire and Ice Cook-off is happening this weekend on the town square in Independence.

The event gets underway tonight (Friday) at the historic school house.

Mark Rosenbaum, with Independence Community Events, says in addition to tomorrow’s (Saturday) contests, there will be a few competitions this evening.

 

Steak shoot out and margarita judging begin at 8 p.m.  The winner of the steak shoot out will win a $1,000 cash prize, sponsored by D.I. Hydraulic Hoses and Fittings.  Second place will win $500 courtesy of Cattleman’s Supply, and third place receives $250 from Box J Quarter Horses.

Tomorrow’s festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with the Chef’s Choice and beans contests.  The chicken competition begins at noon, with pork ribs at 2 p.m. and brisket at 4 p.m.  Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.

Money raised from the cook-off is used by Independence Community Events to restore the historic school house.
