BRENHAM ISD EXPANDING STEAM ACADEMY PROGRAM

Brenham ISD has announced it will expand the STEAM Academy program for the next school year.

The elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Academy will include third grade in the 2019-20 school year at all three elementary campuses.

Implemented this current school year, the STEAM Academy currently serves first and second grade students in a weekly academy, while serving kindergarten, third and fourth graders in STEAM Club.

The STEAM Academy and STEAM Club are led by teachers who have been specially trained by Project Lead the Way, an American nonprofit organization that develops STEM curricula for use by elementary, middle, and high schools.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Jamey Johnson said the school district is excited to be able to expand the program.  She said the district has watched students learn and grow this first year, and is “ready to move forward with an additional grade level”.
