ANOTHER SKIMMER FOUND AT BRENHAM GAS STATION

Authorities have come across another credit card skimmer at a gas station in Brenham.
According to the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Facebook page, a skimmer was found by inspectors on pump #1 at the Valero Corner Store at 1708 Highway 105. Inspectors were called out after receiving a complaint at the location.
Local law enforcement was notified for follow-up and removal of the device.
Just last week, inspectors and Washington County authorities warned that a skimmer had been found right across the street at the Rattlers Exxon at 1703 Highway 105.
The Texas Department of Agriculture provides the following tips to avoid being skimmed:
- Use the pump closest to the storefront, in line of sight for store personnel.
- Before pumping, check for unusual Bluetooth signals with an ID or string of numbers and letters; those might signal a skimmer.
- Check that security tape on the pump cabinet has not been damaged. Torn tape might indicate a cabinet was opened without store personnel knowing.
- The safest bet is to pay inside the store with cash.
- Keep an eye on your bank statements, and always keep the receipt after filling up.
- If you think you've been skimmed, call 1-800-TELL-TDA, and an inspector will be sent to check it out.
