WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO REQUEST UNCLAIMED CAPITAL CREDITS
Washington County Commissioners agreed to submit a request to the state comptroller’s office to seek unclaimed electric cooperative credits.
The court’s request will apply to the county’s portion of capital credits unclaimed by former customers of Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative. The court will have to submit its request no later than July 31st.
State law allows the comptroller to allocate a portion of the unclaimed credits from electric cooperatives back to counties in a coop’s service area. These funds can only be put towards appropriate programs, according to state law.
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative authorized $3.76 million capital credits to its members this year. Capital credits are usually reserved for member-owners of the cooperative, similar to dividends investors receive from for-profit companies.

The amount available to a county is based on total capital credits remitted this reporting year, minus anticipated claims as determined by the comptroller.
The court also proclaimed the month of June as Salvation Army month in Washington County. Commissioner Joy Fuchs praised the Salvation Army, saying they are the ones to call when in time of need.
Reverend Randy Wells said the Salvation Army is the number-one disaster relief agency in the world, and mentioned its bell-ringing campaign and annual trip to Camp Hoblitzelle as key aspects of the organization.
Commissioners also approved three utility installation applications. The county approved: a 4-inch road bore from PGMS-Central Washington County Water Supply Corporation, for the 3009 Creekside Drive intersection for a water line replacement in Precinct 3; a 4-inch road bore from PGMS, for 4255 Genes Lane for a water line replacement in Precinct 3; and from AMP Texas Pipelines, LLC for a 20-inch natural gas pipeline crossing for Brandt Road in Precinct 4.
The court also adopted an order for a county right of way parade permit. It is a blanket parade permit for county roads. Commissioners also cancelled next Tuesday’s meeting, so the court will not meet June 11th.
