SIMULTANEOUS GRASS FIRES HAVE LOCAL DEPARTMENTS BUSY

About five acres of land burned in a Wednesday night grass fire off Highway 290 West.
Just before 6:30, the Brenham Fire Department was called to the 4700 block of Highway 290 West for a grass fire with a vehicle involved.
They found that a grass fire had jumped a fence and involved heavy brush.
Brenham firefighters called for the department’s Ranger UTV and also got assistance from the Chappell Hill Fire Department with the use of their Booster truck and Ranger.
No injuries were reported.
Around the same time, a call for another grass fire was reported in the Bluebonnet Hills subdivision.
A unit from the Chappell Hill Fire Department, with assistance from the Salem Fire Department responded to the 2900 block of Jasmine St.
A downed powerline during high winds led to a small grass fire. Power was also out for less than an hour in the subdivision.
The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries and minimal damage were reported.
